About Vermont First Landing Day: First African Landing Day was established in 2019 to recognize and educate the public on the impact of slavery and discrimination and the resilience and contributions of African Americans and inspired the work of the 400 Year African American History Commission. The 2024 theme “Stay The Course” is inspired by the Adinkra symbol Nkyinkyim (which directly translates to “Life’s journey is twisted.
